Description
This original painting is a textured coastal landscape, capturing a rustic, tranquil scene common to the rugged coastlines of Ireland.
The painting is executed with a heavy impasto technique, using thick, rhythmic applications of paint, with a palette knife, giving the entire surface a prominent, raised texture.
There is bold contrast between the deep, cool blue of the ocean and sky against the earthy, warm tones of the green field and the pop of the red roof. The lighting feels bright yet slightly diffused, mimicking the shifting, moody atmosphere of a coastal evening, as the sun is about to draw in.
I am a self taught Artist, living in Kerry. I am a published author, with Mercier Press. I am drawn to creative pursuits and live surrounded by nature. It feeds the soul and my creative self, offering back some peace, in what is becoming a truly mad World. I am drawn to nature and landscapes. When I paint, preparing a canvas, I love texture and working with heavier mediums. Some days, I can score and drag through pockets of colour, before I’ve even realized it. I use brushes, palate knives, even my fingers. I love rich colour, like my approach to life, which is multicoloured, full on. As I become more joyous, I work with oils, clay, glass, sand and beads, each used as the moment dictates. I have always very much been driven by my emotions. I paint to capture snapshots or moments in time, offering the chance to connect with forgotten memories and feelings. As an adopted person & neuro diverse, I carry much love for what’s human in all of us, with all that vulnerability & imperfection. I celebrate difference and anything ‘otherlike’. . I believe that is what makes an Artist. It’s sharing a view, in the most honest way we can.
