Description
Arresting, intriguing and a sure conversation starter.
When I first approached this artwork I was intending to copy a drawing of mine of a fauvist interpretation of the work ‘Her First Communion’ by artist John Lavery in the National Gallery of Ireland.
As is often the case, plans unfolded and a painting developed a personality of its own. While the essence is still there, the face that has evolved seems to be of an older girl.
A love of fashion, especially catwalk shows of the 80’s and 90’s helped me to reframe this piece as a couture bride, the finale of a show.
The figure, caught between innocence and self-awareness, stands against an energetic yellow backdrop—a burst of inner light and transformation.
