Description
Inspired by a childhood game of throwing rocks onto the melting ice and watching the patterns that develop on the softening ice, anticipating the one that would finally break through the ice. This image is an original 10″x 8″ print on bamboo paper and comes with a border to allow for framing in a frame with min 10″ x 8″ aperture. Ships unframed.
My work explores the connection between structure and spontaneity through the use colour and texture. I use geometric forms, organic shapes, and contrasting palettes to create abstractions that invite reflection. Circles, divisions, fragmented grids and lines recur in my work, suggestive of cycles, boundaries, transitions and moments of in time. My process is experimental, intuitive and responsive, drawing on a sensory experience that is frequently out of step with the world. Through layering, scraping, printing, and overpainting, I often allow traces of earlier missteps to remain visible, revealing a history embedded within each piece. The use of colour informs my work, with strong contrasting shades evoking energy and dissonance, and cooler tones reflecting calmness, balance and contemplation.
