Description
This piece is a venture into impressionist portraiture, depicting a female portrait facing the viewer.
The use of vibrant colour and tone delicately balances with the swirls and the lighting to be abstract while still being recognisable with the face maintaining structure and detail while the sinuous and acquiescent lines surround her.
Oil on canvas
40×50 cm
Ger Hughes is originally from Wicklow, Ireland and has lived in Dublin for 15 years.
As a child he used to draw endlessly, improving little by little over his formative years. Having sought out a profession in digital design, he found himself doing traditional drawing less and less. After doing some life drawing and falling in love with charcoal, he craved a little more. 5 years ago he picked up a paint brush and hasn’t looked back since.
He is passionate about rich, vibrant colour and lighting, and loves to challenge himself with different styles, techniques and a wide range of subjects.
All paintings are oil on canvas at the moment, although some future experimenting with other materials seems highly likely.
