Sapphire of Secrets is an oil painting exploring mystery, strength and hidden stories. Deep sapphire blue, ultramarine, Payne’s grey, charcoal and warm earthy skin tones create a dramatic atmosphere, while the icy blue eyes become the focal point. I developed a new technique for this piece, using layered, broken brushwork to create the appearance and texture of woven linen in the veil, giving the fabric a tactile, weathered quality. The raven adds a sense of wisdom, mystery and quiet companionship.
