Description
“Reflection”— a moment where darkness, weather, and light all meet in one still, evocative forest scene.
Acrylic on canvas.
30x40x1.5
I painted this scene to feel like a quiet, charged moment in nature, where the sky and forest seem to be holding their breath.
The composition is built around a deep, moody woodland landscape at twilight or just after a storm. Tall, shadowed trees frame the scene on both sides, their dark trunks and layered teal-blue foliage guiding the eye inward toward the centre. I wanted the trees in the foreground to feel protective and a little mysterious, almost like they are enclosing the viewer in the scene.
In the distance, a soft yellow glow near the horizon. It is small, but it becomes the emotional centre of the piece — like a hidden sunrise, a distant campfire, or the last light breaking through thick mist. That glow gives the painting a sense of hope and quiet warmth against the cool, heavy atmosphere.
Above that, a dramatic lightning strike cuts through the clouded sky. It creates the main vertical movement in the composition and brings energy into an otherwise still landscape. The lightning also helps connect the sky to the land, making the whole scene feel alive and weather-driven, as if the forest is caught in the aftermath of a powerful storm.
At the bottom, there is a reflective stream or dark water path. The reflection adds a calm contrast to the tension of the stormy sky.
In art symbolism, deep blue-greens represent emotional stability, growth, and calm. They signify the inner strength required to face difficult situations safely.
The misty midground represents confusion, isolation, or the mental blocks we encounter when looking toward the future. The monochromatic dark tones highlight a period of uncertainty.
Yellow brings energy, warmth, and hope. It symbolises a looming breakthrough or a guiding light waiting at the end of a long, dark journey.
In natural symbolism, lightning is a force of sudden destruction but also immediate clarity and power. The stark white represents pure truth slicing through grey illusions, completely transforming the landscape in a single moment.
Water acts as a mirror for the soul and thoughts
