The second half of a pair of paintings, this piece was finished several years after its counterpart. It represents not completion, but growth, persistence and even a little bit of stubbornness – three key ingredients of success in any creative field, be it art or figure skating.

Gráinne Nielsen is an oil painter who lives on the North West coast of Ireland, working from an impressively messy home studio. They spend the winter watching figure skating, the summers thinking about watching figure skating, and almost all of the rest of their time painting figure skating. Sometimes they paint other things they think are pretty, just to keep it fresh.
