Description
Greens, blues and yellows recreate a silent and still Midsummer Eve’s Night in Northern Finland, where the sun never quite dips below the horizon. It creates a unique visual landscape of soft light and long shadows, where spirits and apparitions appear to rise from the still lake surface. It is a snippet of a time and a place almost forgotten, yet still vivid in memories. An original print on paper. 8″ x 10″ inches/
My work explores the connection between structure and spontaneity through the use colour and texture. I use geometric forms, organic shapes, and contrasting palettes to create abstractions that invite reflection. Circles, divisions, fragmented grids and lines recur in my work, suggestive of cycles, boundaries, transitions and moments of in time. My process is experimental, intuitive and responsive, drawing on a sensory experience that is frequently out of step with the world. Through layering, scraping, printing, and overpainting, I often allow traces of earlier missteps to remain visible, revealing a history embedded within each piece. The use of colour informs my work, with strong contrasting shades evoking energy and dissonance, and cooler tones reflecting calmness, balance and contemplation.
