An intimate figurative painting exploring motherhood and the physical and emotional closeness between a mother and her children. The composition brings together different stages of childhood, capturing the tenderness, connection and constant demands that can exist alongside one another within motherhood.
Expressive brushwork, rich colour and closely overlapping figures create a sense of warmth and intimacy, while the deep background draws attention to the relationships between the figures. Rather than presenting motherhood as a single moment, the painting reflects the layered experience of nurturing and caring for children as they grow.
This piece forms part of my wider exploration of motherhood, maternal identity and lived experience through figurative art.

I’m a visual artist based in Naas, Co. Kildare, originally from Tipperary. My practice is rooted in drawing and painting, with a strong interest in figurative work, memory, identity and lived experience. Much of my recent work explores motherhood and matrescence, looking at the physical and emotional experiences of pregnancy, birth, breastfeeding and the changing sense of identity that can come with becoming a mother. I’m particularly interested in creating work that connects personal experiences with stories and emotions that others can recognise in themselves. Alongside my more conceptual and figurative practice, I enjoy creating landscapes, still lifes and observational work. These pieces give me space to explore colour, light, atmosphere and the everyday subjects that catch my attention. My store brings these different parts of my practice together, offering original paintings and drawings created across a variety of subjects and media.
