Between the Lines

"Between the Lines" is a series of five mixed media paintings that explore the space between what is said and what is meant.

Each canvas is divided by a bold horizon into two contrasting fields: light blue over black, sunflower yellow over ochre, pink over deep chocolate, taupe over red, and cool grey over vivid scarlet. The colour pairings read as sky and earth, day and night, surface and depth.
At the centre of each piece sits a small collage panel, the quiet heart of the composition. Torn fragments of vintage sheet music, with their half-legible words and notation, are layered with patterned textiles, postage stamps, and photographic scraps. These snippets of song and memory are only partly readable, inviting viewers to fill in the rest of the story themselves.
Around this core, the painted surface is scratched, scraped, and worn back to reveal hidden layers. Small torn-paper fragments are set into hand-drawn rings, like pebbles, seeds, or stars scattered across the canvas. The result is a textured, tactile dialogue between rhythm and pause, order and spontaneity, music and silence.

Together, the five works form a cohesive collection that can be hung as a set or enjoyed individually.
