Description

“The Storms Takeover” emerges as a visceral exploration of surrender, disruption, and the transformative force of emotional upheaval. The artist interrogates the moment when control dissolves—when what we possess, design, and aspire to becomes subject to something far greater than intention. In choosing to layer pastels and acrylic paints over another artist’s canvas with full permission, the work embodies its own philosophy: takeover need not mean destruction, but rather the generative potential of chaos, the possibility that what storms away can remake us into something truer.

The composition unfolds as a landscape caught mid-transformation. The upper register—ethereal purples, blues, and luminous pinks—suggests the turbulent sky, the realm where storms gather and assertion dissolves. Directional strokes move with urgency, with the energy of wind and weather systems. The lower zone grounds itself in earthen warmth: rusts, deep magentas, verdant greens layered with gestural intensity, as though the ground itself is being reshaped by the atmospheric assault above. These two realms, unified by blue strokes threading through both passages like lightning and rainfall, embody the artist’s intuitive, energetically-driven practice: working with what emerges rather than imposing rigid will.

Pastels and acrylic paint—matte and luminous, tactile and fluid—preserve their individual character whilst responding to one another. Each layer remains legible, creating a surface that rewards close viewing. The work suggests that takeover is not loss but revelation: the storms that overtake us strip away pretense and expose what endures beneath. In the meeting of permission and transformation, the artist achieves something profound—a reckoning with the forces that remake us all.

I'm a self-taught artist working primarily in oil pastel, sometimes combined with colored pencil, applied to paint on both canvas and paper. My process is intuitive rather than planned — I paint the energy that comes off the surface, letting the piece form capriciously as I follow it rather than force it. There's an exchange in the work: I put energy into the piece, and it gives something back, almost like it remembers me. Paper pieces are framed using balsa wood, a material carried over from my background in F1D indoor free-flight model aviation. Each piece is a study of that energy as it takes shape, more discovered than designed.
