Artist Statement
This work emerges from the tension between two integral parts of myself. On the left, my mother—the source of my creative impulse and the soft, natural, sensitive core that draws me toward art. Yet between that gentle origin and my becoming lies a red wall of fury: a barrier that represents the struggle, the friction, the internal conflict necessary for transformation.
The chrysalis is soft, fragile—waiting. The water and river imagery that flows through my practice symbolizes the ongoing journey, the medium through which I navigate this “war of becoming.” The painting holds both sides of this duality: the tenderness that makes me draw, and the fierce necessity of conflict that shapes who I’m becoming. On the other side is why you are rushing all in colored pencil with a snail and the need to be responsible the fear part of me.
