I am always interested in the study of the human form and face. In this painting I was interested in pushing the medium of watercolour and use expressive strokes and an experimental colour palette to describe the muse. I was inspired by the dramatic lighting in the reference image as well as Emily’s empowered head tilt and direct gaze.
Hi, my name is Jean and I am a portrait artist living and working in Cork, Ireland. Drawing and painting since childhood my primary interest is in the art of portraiture in both watercolour and oil paints. The image or idea for the painting will dictate which medium I use.
My work is an exploration of what it is to be human. My paintings are both a response to and observation of my own daily life and the natural world around me. My painting style focuses on my interest in colour, energy and self-expression.
