Description
A native of Dublin, but long time resident of the the real capital (Cork), Catherine takes her inspiration from the wildness of the Atlantic, the motifs of the West Cork coastline and the mundanities/exceptionalities of her inner life. She cites her heroines as Frida Kahlo and Simone de Beauvoir, as well as her main hero Sonny, her Dad – a man before his time and the subject of her first award winning piece “Sonny on a Hammock in the Bahamas”, which she created at age 9.
Her work combines a graphic simplicity with an ethereal expression, distilling images to their simplest form which are then embellished with repeating patterns – both monochrome and multi-coloured – reminiscent of her celtic heritage. She combines pen, ink, watercolour and acrylic and always works on 300 GSM acid free paper.
For the past 30 years, Catherine’s work has been an “inside job”, but now she delights in the sharing of her practice.
