Mixed media paintings.

Description

Inspired by the ruins of Rosserk Friary near Killala, Co. Mayo located on the Wild Atlantic Way, this is a mixed media work detailing the remaining altar window of the sprawling ruins of Rosserk Friary. It was built by the Joyce family in 1460 for the Friars of the Franciscan Third Order Regular. However, the name Rosserk is derived from the legend of Serk or Searka who was a local holy or healer woman who inhabited the area of Ross. Ireland’s rich history of folk catholicism runs deep through its pagan foundations.
