Original oil painting #214 on stretched canvas measuring 31 x 31 cms. This is another re-use of a previous painting that hung in my studio for a period of time. I used very few colours in this painting to create a lighting affect surrounded by dark evergreen type trees. The lack of detail at the edges gives a nice effect that allows for the darker trees either side of the light to push the light forward.

I started painting in 2022 after Covid and when I made the decision to leave my job after 36 years of employment for a large US company. I had never painted before and decided to give it a go to keep myself busy while creating some art. It’s been a journey and I think I am improving. I don’t have the right mindset to paint any real locations so everything I paint just appears on the canvas, textured paper or recently on the wooden panels I upcycle when they become available.
My artwork is varied but I usually return to trees, forests, mountains or landscapes. I focus on colours before I paint and whatever happens on the canvas shows through the colours I have selected. I mostly paint with Oils but will use Acrylics once in a while, especially if I am painting candles.
I have always used the name “Shannow” as it was my email address from way back when email and the internet were something new. The name is taken from a character in a book I read and it just stuck with me.
