Oil on stretched canvas. Painting #211. This canvas was prepared in black oil and left to dry. Once ready the background colours were added in strips to create lines. From the point, the image was developed into a forest scene with different elements of light already there from the preparation of the canvas. This painting flowed and required very little work with the oil on the canvas.

I started painting in 2022 after Covid and when I made the decision to leave my job after 36 years of employment for a large US company. I had never painted before and decided to give it a go to keep myself busy while creating some art. It’s been a journey and I think I am improving. I don’t have the right mindset to paint any real locations so everything I paint just appears on the canvas, textured paper or recently on the wooden panels I upcycle when they become available.
My artwork is varied but I usually return to trees, forests, mountains or landscapes. I focus on colours before I paint and whatever happens on the canvas shows through the colours I have selected. I mostly paint with Oils but will use Acrylics once in a while, especially if I am painting candles.
I have always used the name “Shannow” as it was my email address from way back when email and the internet were something new. The name is taken from a character in a book I read and it just stuck with me.
