Description
My work is inspired by the relationship between ancient practices and modern day religion within the Irish rural landscape with ‘folk Catholicism’ providing the medium to channel the longing for a more indigenous ideal into modern Ireland.
‘Roots’ is inspired by a sight all too familiar in rural Ireland, many former family homes have been left derelict either through immigration or dwindling family numbers. Roofs have either collapsed through neglect or have been removed as a way to avoid tax, the roofless structures have evolved into the perfect haven for seedlings to take root of their own, repurposing the idea of home as nature reclaims.
