Fish on a Dish

Drawing, representation and presentation is always at the forefront of my work as an architect. Fundamentally architects observe and depict form and light. I think it is these practises that eased me into picking up a paint brush and re-discovering my interest in fine art during the lockdowns of 2020.

Normally based in London, I worked from home in my native rural County Armagh, Northern Ireland during the numerous lockdowns. The subject of rural animals came from this and reflects my background of being raised in the countryside. I started off randomly with a painting of a cow in our back field that was looking at me as I did my work. From this the theme emerged of rural animals as I diversified into painting portraits of sheep, pigs, goats, donkeys, all sorts.
